Natural Landmarks in North Carolina

North Carolina is known across the nation as a state of natural beauty. The state has three distinct regions.

Along the Atlantic Coast some of the countries most beautiful beaches collect the waves and sun of a vacation paradise. The outer banks also provide some of the most relaxing and exciting fishing and boating.

The piedmont of North Carolina, also called the heartland, provides residents with moderate weather and excellent conditions for jogging, golf, and lake activities.

The rustic, natural beauty of North Carolina's mountains stand majestically as a testament to the true aesthetic force of nature.

The North Carolina State Flag bears the state colors or red, white and blue.

The Flag bears two dates in its blue field on the left. May 20, 1775 was the year North Carolina signed the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence was issued and April 12, 1776 is the date of the Halifax Resolves. North Carolina was the first colony to declare its independence from England well before July 4, 1776.
