New Billfish Tournament Slated for the Crystal Coast
Along with his passion for the outdoors and the mission of the Boys and Girls Club, It is his accomplishment and dedication to the future of both the outdoors and children that has led Barta to establish the Barta Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament in Beaufort, North Carolina. The Boys and Girls club which was founded in 1860 is a club devoted to assuring children from the age of 6 through 18 can interact, unencumbered in an environment in which children and their dreams are the first priority. It is this mission of the Boys and Girls Club that will give this tournament a unique standard for other tournaments to follow and challenge anglers to rise to the occasion and support children through the life of fishing
Unlike any other tournament in North Carolina and the Atlantic Seaboard, this tournament will be billfish release only, with meat fish divisions scored by weight. Unlike many other tournaments which benefit both charities in contributions and anglers in contributions; this tournament will donate all proceeds to the Boys and Girls Club. Anglers will not compete for cash prizes; instead trophies will be awarded and points will be obtained for the ongoing Governors Cup Series. This format will challenge anglers to devote two days of fishing not towards taking home cash for the largest fish; instead anglers will have the opportunity to impact the lives of children simply by catching a few fish. Trophies will be issued for Billfish release and towards appropriate winners of the Wahoo, Dolphin, Tuna and King Mackerel divisions, respectfully. Anglers can fish no more than 6 rods per boat and only dead bait, single hook rigs will be allowed. There are many categories in which to enter ranging from outboard division, through ladies, junior angler and amateur angler division.
Along the docks of the tournament, famous outdoors artist such as Guy Harvey will be on hand to demonstrate the essence of being on the water in search of game fish through the colures of canvas. An avid underwater photographer, and artist, Guy was the first to film and observe most free swimming billfish sought by large game fish anglers. Guy will bring his adventures from Australias Great Barrier Reef through the Caribbean and in July to the docks at Beaufort. It is Guys involvement with the conservation of fishing and his devotion to family and children that will make this tournament special. Along with many other artists, the world of the outdoors will be on display throughout the tournament.
This tournament will bring fishing to a new light as the goal will be to bring anglers from across the coast into Beaufort for fishing and support towards the mission of the Boys and Girls Club of Coastal North Carolina.
The entry fee per boat will be $500 and all anglers and boats are welcome to fish any or all of the many divisions. Anglers are encouraged to reserve their slips now in Beaufort as water front slots will be a premium during the tournament week and typical summer boating excursions.
