Balsam Mountain Inn welcomed its first guests in 1908.
For decades, visitors arrived by rail at the Southern Railway's Balsam station, which was the highest railway station east of the Rockies. Passengers dissembarked on cool, starry summer evenings and took slow strolls or carriage rides to the inn, which stood, a symbol of grand hospitality, on the ridge above.
Today after extensive restoration, the inn extends a warm welcome year-round. Come share its friendliness, its beauty, its grace and its comfort. You'll discover that the Balsam Mountain Inn is not only a National Historic Place, it's a magical one, too.
