The City of Rockingham Police Department is a community driven organization dedicated to the prevention of crime and expansion of community relations. The department works in conjunction with the Richmond County Sheriff's DepartmentsDrug Task Force; as well as, having members assigned to the county wide S.R.T.(Special Response Team).
The Rockingham Police Department also has three (3)community substations. These substations were establish to help decrease crime, violence, and drugs in high-risk community areas.
The City of Rockingham has been designated as a Weed & Seed site since September 1998. The Weed & Seed program is a federally funded drug elimination plan. It was designed to bring local, state, and federal agencies together to : WEED out crime and violence, SEED in jobs, businesses and education, and provide a drug free environment. As one of the founding agencies, the Rockingham Police Dept. works in cooperation with the U.S. Attorney's office (Middle Eastern District) to administer this program.
