Founded in 1902 by Dr. Brown, Palmer Memorial Institute transformed the lives of more than 2,000 black students. Today campus buildings provide the setting for a unique educational experience. The memorial links Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown and Palmer to the larger themes of black education and social history, emphasizing the contributions made by African Americans to education in the state.
