Formerly the city gallery of Contemporary Art, The Contemporary Art Museum has been leading the venue for the presentation of contemporary art in the RTP region since its beginning in 1983.
The museum was created to show the community's rich arts resources, filling an identified gap in the exhibition of contemporary art. From its earliest days, the museum has been supported by the City of Raleigh, local and national foundations, corporations and individuals who recognize the impaortance of a diverse and expansive artistic voice within the RTP.
The Contemporary Art Museum is a non-profit institution dedicated to presenting the art of our time to the public. As a non-collecting museum, its mission is to provide a forum for art with an emphasis on the visual arts of the present and recent past; to document new directions in art through changing exhibitions and publications; to engage the public in a lively dialogue with today's art; and to encourage a greater understanding of contemporary art through educational programs.
Admission is free for most events.
