James K. Polk was the 11th President of the United States.
The memorial is located on the land of the parents of the Polk. The memorial commemorates significant events in the Polk administration: the Mexican War, settlement of the Oregon boundary dispute, and the annexation of California. Reconstructions of typical homestead buildings (a log house, separate kitchen, and barn) are authentically furnished in the period of Polk's life.
The visitor center offers exhibits relating to the life and times of Polk and a 25 minute film on his life and civic contributions.
