Grandfather Mountain stands high in Blue Ridge mountians seperating North Carolina and Tennissee.
Today visitors actually drive to the crest, and along the way enjoy spectacular scenery, endless vistas and intriguing rock formations. Then, upon reaching one mile in elevation, guests can take an adventurous walk across the Mile High Swinging Bridge.
Originally built in 1952, the bridge was refurbished at the end of 1999. The new Mile High Swinging Bridge is made of hi-tech, low-maintenance materials that give it a beautiful new look.
Grandfather Mountain offers chances to photograph bears, river otters, eagles, panthers, deer, and racoons in spacious natural wildlife habitats. Visitors can also browse through a nature museum that celebrates the natural history of the region and see original nature movies about the mountain.
You can dine in local restaurants or plan on picnicking at any of a hundred roadside tables. Grandfater mountain offers a hiking adventure on 13 miles of the South's best alpine trails.
