From Raleigh, NC
Take US Hwy 70 East through Goldsboro, Kinston, New Bern, and Havelock. After leaving Havelock, still on 70 East, drive 5 miles and take a right at the third stoplight. This will put you on Hibbs Road. Drive to the end and you'll be at the intersection of Hwy 24 and Hibbs. There will be a Texaco on your left. Turn right on to Hwy 24 and drive approx. 2 miles. On your left, you'll see a big sign that reads, "Whispering Pines Campground." There will also be two cellular phone towers--one on each side of the highway. Turn in by the sign. Approx. Time: 2.5-3.5 hours
From Wilmington, NC
Take US Hwy 17 (also known as Market Street) north out of Wilmington. Drive straight through Ogden, Hamstead, and Holly Ridge. You will next enter the Folkstone area in which you will turn off to the right on to Hwy 172 (Be alert in the Folkstone area. It is not an actual town and the signs will come up on you quickly.). There should be signs that tell you you are heading for Topsail Beach, Surf City, and/or Snead's Ferry. Continue on Hwy 172 straight through Snead's Ferry. You will go over a high rise bridge then Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base. There will be a sentry standing by the entrance. Dim your lights if they are on. Tell the sentry you are going straight through. Continue through the base following the signs for Hwy 172. When you come out of the base, continue on Hwy 172 until it ends at NC Hwy 24. There will be a Scotchman and Texaco at the intersection. Make a right onto NC Hwy 24. Continue east on 24 through Swansboro, Cedar Point, and Cape Carteret. We are approximately 8 miles on the other side of Cape Carteret on the right. Look for an Ace Hardware and a big sign that reads, "Whispering Pines Campground." Approx. Time: 1.5-2hr
From Western NC
Take interstate 40 straight into Wilmington, NC (40 ends in Wilmington). Turn off onto Highway 17/Market Street. Then, follow directions from Wilmington (above).
From Interstate 95
In the Smithfield/Selma, NC area you will exit off onto US 70. Follow same directions from Raleigh (above).
