Tyrrell was formed in 1729 from Chowan, Currituck and Pasquotank Counties. It is in the eastern section of the State and is bounded by Dare, Hyde and Washington counties and the Albemarle Sound.²

The quarter features the date North Carolina signed the constitution, 1789. However, the States slogan is listed as "First Flight", while it is really "First in Flight".
