Lee
County was formed from Moore and Chatham Counties in 1907. The act was to become
effective April 1, 1908. It is in
the central section of the State and is bounded by Harnett, Moore and Chatham
counties.2
Lee County was named in honor of Robert E. Lee, the great military leader of the Confederacy during the Civil War.2
