Hoke was formed from Cumberland and Robeson Counties in 1911. It is in the southeastern section of the State and is bounded by Cumberland, Robeson, Scotland, Moore and Harnett counties.²

Hoke County was named in honor of Robert F. Hoke, a major-general in the Confederate States Army.
