Hoke
was formed from Cumberland and Robeson Counties in 1911.
It is in the southeastern section of the State and is bounded by Cumberland,
Robeson, Scotland, Moore and Harnett counties.2
Hoke County was named in
honor of Robert F. Hoke, a major-general in the Confederate States Army.
The Pine Tree is the most abundant tree in North Carolina. In the early days of North Carolina History, the pine tree was used to make turpentine and other naval products.
