Cleveland County was formed in 1841 from Rutherford and Lincoln counties. It is in the southwestern section of the state and is bounded by the state of South Carolina and Rutherford, Burke, Lincoln, and Gaston counties.2

Cleveland County is nestled in the rolling piedmont of the southwestern portion of North Carolina situated in the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. Cleveland county is the gateway between Asheville and Charlotte and centered between two of the largest metropolitan areas of the Carolinas-- Charlotte and Greenville/Spartanburg.3
