Chowan County was named after a local native american tribe.
In 1720, Edenton,
which was named in honor of Governor Charles Eden, was established. In 1722
it was designated and has continued to be the county seat.
The Pine Tree is the most abundant tree in North Carolina. In the early days of North Carolina History, the pine tree was used to make turpentine and other naval products.
