Named after the local tribe, Chowan County was formed in 1670 as a precinct in Albemarle County. It is in the northeastern section of the State and is bounded by Albemarle Sound, Chowan River, and Bertie, Hertford, Gates and Perquimans counties.²

Channel Bass usually occur in great supply along the cost and most large ones average between 30 and 40 pounds, making them great for sport fishing.
